How Voting for the College Football Playoff Committee Works

The 2025 College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings will debut on Tuesday at 8 p.m., offering insight into the committee's perspective on the top teams ahead of next month's 12-team playoff selection. The CFP committee, consisting of 12 members serving three-year terms, employs a seven-round voting process to rank the top 25 teams weekly until Selection Day on December 7. This process includes evaluating strength of schedule, head-to-head results, and common opponents, as well as considering player and coach availability and using statistical data and game film analysis.

The initial rankings will be announced on November 4, followed by updates on November 11, 18, 25, and December 2. On Selection Day, the top four seeds will receive byes, while the remaining eight teams will be seeded 5 through 12 for the playoff. The highest-ranked conference champions automatically qualify, with the fifth champion receiving the No. 12 seed if outside the top 12.
